I doubt you are going to get much info about Canadian law on here. Did all of this happen in Canada, or in the United states? Don't let the cop look through your phone. Contact a local criminal defense lawyer as soon as possible for a consultation.

Only if you are caught. You can have an attorney appear on your behalf to remove the warrant. If you retain an attorney to do such you reduce the risk of going to jail. Good luck.

If I got a ticket yesterday for shoplifting, what will I be charged with if the items that were returned cost $17?

Depending on the amount allegedly stolen and the jurisdiction where the event occurred, shoplifting can be met with a mere citation (infraction), or charged as a misdemeanor or even a felony, with possible jail sentences of 6 months to 3 years. It will be up to the D.A. to determine how the crime will be charged. I suggest that you hire an experienced criminal defense attorney to represent you and get you the best deal possible.
