How much time can you get for a first offence robbery charge and can you avoid jail time with no money for a lawyer?

You can get up to 6 years for 1st degree and up to 5 years for 2nd degree robbery. No one can answer you question about what types of settlements are possible because that depends on the facts, the strength of the evidence, the DA, and the judge. If you cant afford to hire a lawyer, one will be appointed by the court.

You don't say what Counties are involved but I don't think you are going to jail. Focus on avoiding a criminal record for life. I suggest that you hire a good criminal defense lawyer.

Can the prosecution call a hostile witness in a criminal defense trial?

She may be able to be called as a witness but that does not cause her to lose her 5th Amendment right against self incrimination. If her testimony would implicate her in a crime she can refuse to answer based on her 5th Amendment rights. She should seek legal counsel to assist her in this matter.
