Is it too late to drop the charges against my boyfriend?

Mark A. Broughton
Answered by attorney Mark A. Broughton (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Mark A. Broughton, PC
A citizen/"victim" does not prosecute, or "drop charges." That decision is entirely up to the DA (prosecutor). And this happens so often in domestic violence cases that there is a special code section dealing with it. So no, you cannot drop charges.

Are your rights required to be read during a traffic violation warrant for arrest?

Answered by attorney Andrea Rogers (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at The Rogers Law Firm
The police don't have to read you your rights unless they want to question you while you are in their custody. It sounds like he had no reason to question you, so I'm not surprised that he didn't read you your Miranda rights.

I was caught with my friend's drugs, what is going to happen to me?

Answered by attorney Jonathan S. Willett
Criminal Law lawyer at Jonathan S. Willett Attorney at Law
In Colorado, possession does not mean ownership, but it means "control" or "dominion." That said, it would not really matter very much that you did not own the stuff. However, if he would admit it was his, it may help to get you a favorable plea agreement.
