What should I do about a sex crime accusation?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney Linda Kaye Frieder (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Law Office of Linda K. Frieder
1. Do not talk to anyone about the accusation. Do not talk to the police without an attorney present. 2. If you are arrested, immediately call an experienced sex crimes attorney to handle your matter. This is a SERIOUS charge. 3. If nothing has happened yet, stop seeing the girl and find someone who is 18+.

What is the best response to an author who says he is going to publish statements about me that I know to be false?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney Christian Frederick Paul (Unclaimed Profile)
Criminal Law lawyer at Law Office of Christian F. Paul
You know the statements are false, but does the author know them to be false? Libel (written statements) and slander (oral) involve false statements made that injure the person's reputation and cause damage, either actual or presumed.? If these false statements are published, and they harm your reputation, you may have a cause of action for defamation, meaning a lawsuit for money to reimburse you for your injured reputation. If you have a clear written notice to the author (and to the publisher) that the statements are false and that you demand that the author not publish the false statements, then you will have good proof that the author (and the publisher) went ahead knowing that the statements were false the first element you need to prove at trial.? You might also demand that the author give you whatever information he or she is relying on to write the statements maybe there's someone else out there telling lies about you, and you want to put a stop to that person's lies, too. You ought to consult with an attorney right away to help you make the demands and to give you specific advice about your situation. Good luck and I hope this person doesn't publish lies about you after all.

Am I allowed to go in tomorrow and tell the judge what is happening myself?

Impossible to say what will happen. The judge may or may not listen to what you have to say and may or may not grant you a continuance to hire private counsel.
