I had a wonderful experience working with Sonja Jean and her team. She is extremely knowledgeable in family law and was very good at explained things to me. She always answered me within the hour even if it was a quick text to let me know she was in court. Sonja was professional yet still compassionate. I highly recommend her!
Well, hard to describe in 4000 characters all dirty practices applied from this person and her associate Laura Davis Smith. Poor work, they charge like they are superstars Lawyer but do not even have a clerical to answer the phone.
Sonja Jean took $4,500 from me without any court order, pressuring me and falsely claiming it was required under my retainer. When I requested a refund, she completely ignored me, and instead her lawyer emailed me instructing not to contact her. This behavior is highly unprofessional and unethical. If you don’t want to risk losing money or dealing with this kind of conduct, I strongly recommend avoiding hiring her under any circumstances.
WARNING: Over 50 Years Practicing, Yet Barely a Handful of Verified Positive Reviews? Look Closer Before You Hire. Ask yourself this before hiring them: If a law firm has been practicing for over 50 years combined… yet barely has a dozen verified positive reviews online… What does that say? I did the research that most people don’t. Here’s what I found: Where Do People Review Lawyers? I Googled “best site to review an attorney”. The top results were: - Avvo - Yelp - Google Reviews - Facebook - Lawyers.com The Numbers Don’t Lie Avvo: 9 positive (5-star) reviews, 6 negative (1-star) reviews. Yelp: 3 in not recommended negative reviews. Google: 1 positive (5-star) review, 4 negative reviews (not counting mine). Facebook: 3 “recommended” reviews, 2 “not recommended.” Lawyers.com: 1 positive review, 2 negative reviews. TOTAL: 14 positive vs. 15 negative reviews.
Sonja Jean was appointed as the Guardian ad Litem in my case, referred to me by attorney Paul Leinoff, who described her as an “amazing” professional. Unfortunately, my experience was the complete opposite, and I believe it is important for others to know my side before deciding to hire her to represent you or your children. From my experience, Ms. Jean collected $4,500 from me without a court order authorizing that payment, which I believe was done unlawfully and under pressure. The agreed order in my case clearly stated that I was to pay an initial retainer of $7,500, and that any additional fees or payments would be decided by the court. Evidence of this can be seen in Ms. Jean’s own motion for Guardian ad Litem fees, where she admits to receiving money from me.
