About Benjamin Andrew Barco

Benjamin Barco is Crawford & von Keller’s North Carolina Managing Attorney. Ben was born in Eastern North Carolina in 1983 and grew up on the Outer Banks. He is a graduate of Currituck County High School in Barco, North Carolina, where he was an All-Conference member of the golf team. He attended the University of North Carolina Wilmington and graduated magna cum laude with a B.A. in Political Science, minor in English, in 2005.

Ben received his law degree from the University of Mississippi School of Law in Oxford, Mississippi, in 2008. He also studied at Cambridge University in Cambridge, England in 2006, focusing on international law. Returning to North Carolina after law school, he practiced law with a large financial services law firm in Wilmington. There, he managed multiple departments and advised national lending institutions on a wide range of mortgage and lending issues, such as foreclosure, collections, bankruptcy, replevins, landlord-tenant disputes, and real estate, before joining Crawford & von Keller, LLC, in 2021.

Ben is a member of the North Carolina State Bar, the Tennessee State Bar, and the State Bar of Texas. He is also admitted to the U.S. District Court for the Eastern, Middle, and Western District of North Carolina. In 2018, he was admitted to the United States Supreme Court and sworn in before all nine Justices in Washington, D.C.

Ben has also lectured as an adjunct professor in the Cameron School of Business at the University of North Carolina Wilmington, teaching in the areas of Business Law and Negotiable Instruments.

In 2018, Ben organized a charity golf tournament for the Pink Ribbon Project, in partnership with New Hanover Regional Medical Center. The Pink Ribbon Project benefits women in the Wilmington area who are fighting breast cancer and provides more than 1,000 eligible patients with breast imaging each year.

Ben met his wife, Kelly, who is also an attorney, in Charleston, South Carolina in 2011, and they were married in 2015. The Barcos live in Wilmington, North Carolina, where they are raising their daughter, son, and a Scottish Terrier. In his spare time, Ben enjoys traveling, golf, and sailing.
