He was very kind an considerate because I lived 2 hours away from where I was going to court, he would work with the judge for a reasonable time for me so I could have time to get to court. On August 7th, I received a letter from the law office saying they’re trying to collect debt $250 for homeowners association fees not paid on behalf of Water’s Edge homeowners association of Boone County. We own a house there that we rent out to somebody else. I called the law office and was transferred to voicemail of the lawyer listed on the statement. I left a message saying that I have not received the HOA statement and wondered if it was sent to tenant’s address instead of ours, and that I had no way of contacting the association as they’re not listed online and I do not have their contact information. I also sent an email to the law office listed on that letter. I have not heard anything back from them for a few weeks. Called again and left a voicemail as well as emailed again, in a few days I got a letter saying my fees have increased to $300. I emailed asking why balance due went up,I still don’t know what original amount due was, no answer for almost a week now.
I regret hiring this law firm as their lawyer, Jim Powell, performed awful work on a real estate transaction he botched for me due to his ineptitude to send me the draft purchase in a suitable time frame. I had spoken with him on the telephone on 4-7-21 and on 4-9-21 I gave him the information needed for the sales agreement. After hearing nothing I contacted him again on 4-12-21 and was told it would be done as soon as possible. Fast forward to 4-15-21. I have heard nothing from Attorney Powell and so I contact the law office to see what the issue is. I receive a response from Attorney Powell stating something work-related on another case came up. At this point I’m upset as the seller has grown impatient with the wait. Guess what happened? You guessed it—the seller went with another offer; likely because I told him I would get him a lease agreement and after six days didn’t produce one. And despite this I was sent a bill for almost $250 which I paid.
