As a border patrol agent, I Took a Mesquite branch through my left eye one night while chasing a group of drug smugglers. I subsequently received a cornea Transplant in the same eye. Upon receiving the transplant, I was unable to see properly out of that eye. My vision went from being a perfect 20/20 to 20/600 After the surgery. For one reason or another, my eye was not very receptive to the new cornea. OWCP Tried to award me a 20% compensation payment. It clearly states in Owcp’s regulations that if you lose more than 80% of vision and either I it’s considered to complete loss of vision and should be awarded 100%. I contacted the Shapiro law firm to file an appeal on my behalf and they were able to get me an additional 20% but are still fighting the good fight on my behalf. Their tenacious approach and dedication to knowing Worker’s Compensation law has been a godsend.
