About Vy'Shaey M. Mitchell

Vy’Shaey is a seasoned and pragmatic labor and employment attorney who delivers practical and strategic guidance to employers across a wide range of industries. Her expertise spans numerous areas of employment law, including Title VII, ADA, FMLA, OSHA, and the Illinois Human Rights Act. In addition to her advisory role, Vy’Shaey regularly conducts internal investigations, as well as Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) assessments for her clients.

Before joining Reifers Holmes & Peters, LLC, Vy’Shaey practiced at an international law firm, where she focused on employment litigation and honed her skills in handling complex workplace disputes. She also brings a wealth of traditional labor experience, having served as lead counsel in grievance proceedings, mediations, and arbitrations. Her work ensures that collective bargaining agreements and disciplinary procedures are effectively upheld.

Vy’Shaey has represented a diverse client base, from small business owners to Fortune 100 companies, across sectors such as transportation, state and local government, healthcare, and global retail. She also gained valuable in-house experience managing labor and employment issues for a major mass transit company, where she oversaw the defense of grievances and discrimination claims.

Vy’Shaey began her legal career as a judicial law clerk for the Honorable Franklin U. Valderrama in the Circuit Court of Cook County. Since then, she has built a robust litigation practice, appearing before the Illinois Human Rights Commission and in federal and state courts in Illinois and Tennessee.

Committed to professional and community service, Vy’Shaey is an active member of the National Employment Law Counsel (NELC), an executive board member of the Cook County Bar Association, and a general board member for 826 CHI, a nonprofit dedicated to empowering students through expository writing programs.
