About Uma Bansal

To be an effective attorney, one should try to understand more than just the law, one must understand the mechanics that drive companies, technology and society. In that pursuit, Ms. Uma Bansal began as a student of Electrical Engineering at Johns Hopkins University, exploring subjects ranging from microchips to fiber optics. At Hopkins, Ms. Bansal obtained a graduate fellowship grant and was inducted into Eta Kappa Nu, the electrical engineering honor society. She fostered connections between future scientists and companies by establishing and running a chapter of the Institution of Electrical and Electronics Engineers(IEEE).

After obtaining her Electrical Engineering degree, Ms. Bansal worked as a project manager for the Navy, at the Naval Surface Warfare Center. She helped to bring wireless technology to large naval vessels while collaborating with small businesses. Ms. Bansal attended Boston College Law School and obtained her Juris Doctorate. There, she studied the inner workings of corporations, intellectual property, and the law.

THE LEGAL WORLD

In establishing The Oracle Legal Group, Ms. Bansal developed a practice that would provide a comprehensive range of legal services to startup companies, established businesses, and technology entrepreneurs. Ms. Bansal handles corporate work for her clients ranging from helping startups form their business entities to drafting and advising on complex corporate contracts and employment agreements and helping to structure acquisitions and mergers,. She has spear-headed management of her client’s intellectual property portfolio, including but not limited to, registration of trademarks and patents, and intellectual property licensing deals.

Before establishing ULG, Ms. Bansal worked with some of the most prestigious technology firms in world, DLA Piper, Brinks Hofer, Gilson and Lione and Freeborn & Peters. She served as a trial attorney for intellectual property matters. She investigated the intricacies her client’s invention and argued for their inventions uniqueness. Additionally, Ms. Bansal worked with clients to establish licensing contacts and negotiated software, consulting, biotech and intellectual property agreements.

Ms. Bansal is passionate about the connection between technology and the law, and specializes in technology, healthcare operations and entrepreneurship matters. She serves as outside in-house counsel to private practices, technology companies, urgent care companies, and freestanding emergency rooms handle their legal compliance and business needs.

FIGHTING FOR JUSTICE

Ms. Bansal deeply believes in Mr. King’s saying, “injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere.” Ms. Bansal fought against corruption in a broken system while at the Human Rights Law Network. As a civil rights advocate, Ms. Bansal has worked tirelessly on state and Federal cases involving false arrest, excessive force, unreasonable searches, personal injury, wrongful death, malicious prosecution and First Amendment violations.

Ms. Bansal had the opportunity to battle municipal corruption and wrongdoing through a Seipler v. McHenry County, helping to put an end to racial profiling by the McHenry County. More recently, she led a team and won a favorable verdict in Federal court case involving the abuse of a young boy in Smith v. City of Chicago. To date, Ms. Bansal has won favorable verdicts for her clients in both forums.
