Phillip S. Reed is a partner in the Litigation Practice Group. He focuses his practice in commercial litigation and has represented clients in state and federal courts and arbitration tribunals throughout the United States. Mr. Reed’s commercial litigation experience includes: contract disputes; commercial torts; shareholder disputes and minority shareholder rights cases; director, officer and employee fraud and breach of fiduciary duty claims; claims regarding theft of proprietary business information and unfair trade practices; securities litigation (including SEC investigations, 10-b5 claims and shareholder derivative actions); lawsuits concerning termination of employment, covenants not-to-compete and other employment-related matters; lawsuits concerning mergers and acquisitions; lawsuits concerning real estate acquisition, disposition, lease and construction matters; enforcement of creditors’ rights (including loan restructuring and workout matters); insurance coverage disputes; injunction proceedings; and day-to-day handling of pleadings, discovery, pre-trial, trial, and appeal of commercial disputes. Mr. Reed also has experience in product liability litigation, tax litigation (defense of constitutional challenges to state and local taxes), and criminal defense.
In 2012, Super Lawyers magazine recognized Mr. Reed as a "Super Lawyer" in business litigation.
Mr. Reed is a graduate of University of Cincinnati (B.A., with honors, 1980) and Northwestern University School of Law (J.D., cum laude, 1984). He was admitted to the Illinois State Bar in 1984, as well as the Bar of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of Illinois. Mr. Reed is an active member of the American Bar Association, serving on its Forum Committee on the Construction Industry. Prior to joining PFS, Mr. Reed was a commercial litigation partner at Mayer, Brown, Rowe & Maw LLP in Chicago, Illinois.
