The bulk of Flaxman's practice is in the federal courts. Flaxman has argued more than 200 appeals, including five matters before the United States Supreme Court.
Flaxman has successfully prosecuted several significant civil rights cases, including a lawsuit against Calumet City, Illinois that secured a 5.4 million dollar settlement for more than 300 women who had been strip-searched after arrests on minor charges. Flaxman is currently prosecuting several large class actions arising out of conditions at the Cook County Jail and the Jerome Combs Jail in Kankakee, Illinois.
