Employee benefits are non-wage compensations, such as stock options, group insurance, retirement benefits, sick leave, and vacation provided to employees through an employee benefit plan in addition to their wages or salaries. Some employee benefits are mandated by statute such as unpaid family or medical leave under the federal Family Medical Leave Act.
