Hired Attorney

If you are African American, please beware. Sherry V. Smith took on my case and at first I was relieved to have GBLS. However, as my court case progressed it was clear she didn't want to fight for me. When I requested accommodations because of declining health, I was met with aggression and accusations of being uncooperative along with stereotypical comments that ultimately hurt my case. I didn't know what was happening to me at the time. I finally got a medical diagnosis from a new doctor but only after my trial. (Sadly my prior doctor (also a white woman) insisted that my symptoms were just from case related mental stress but turns out it was rheumatoid arthritis.) If you are African-American and have nowhere to go, I strongly recommend you avoid GBLS. Sherry is a senior attorney at GBLS so you will have nobody to report her behavior to. So many say "black lives matter" and I am speaking up about my experience at GBLS. I hope my honest review is accepted although it is unfavorable.

The Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings process is the gold standard due to its objectivity and comprehensiveness. All reviewers are verified as attorneys through Martindale-Hubbell’s extensive attorney database. Only attorneys practicing at least three years and receiving a sufficient number of reviews from non-affiliated attorneys are eligible to receive a Rating.

What are the different Martindale-Hubbell Peer Review Ratings?*

• AV Preeminent®: The highest peer rating standard. This rating signifies that a large number of the lawyer’s peers rank him or her at the highest level of professional excellence for their legal knowledge, communication skills and ethical standards.
