When adults are put in the position of socio-emotional caring for teens, they ought to be first vetted as trust-worthy, safe, respectful, responsible, along with knowing the legal side. When this first side is missing, this hasn’t been a successful pairing, no matter the legal outcome. If there are others out there, dm me at the usual place. Teens (and former) need safe spaces. Especially when they come for assistance.
As a young teen I was vulnerable and too trusting of Mr. Gatewood. To quote Cher, “If I could turn back time.” Alas, one can only move forward. If I get legal advice today I ask more questions before hiring. People reveal who they are. Ask. Listen. Believe when you see red flags. Run. And always good to never put young people in the hands of pedos.
