Stuart Mermelstein took on my son’s case 6 months before the NY victim act came into place. In that time he did absolutely nothing but make empty promises. Once the Act was passed he was impossible to reach by phone or email. He retraumatized the victim by promising to write a request of settlement letter to the school my son was abused in. Week after week I explained to him that my son was having a hard time reliving that time in his life and was seeking closure through legal means. Something Mr. Mermelstein had promised to try to provide. Repeatedly Mr. Mermelstein lied to us about writing the letter and moving my son’s case forward. When he finally responded he had his associate Krisel send a “letter” that could have been written by a middle school student with many wrong facts - the most negligent being that she named my son as the perpetrator of these awful acts and his abuser named as the victim. I don’t think unprofessional is a strong enough word for this firm .
