About Ryan Murphy Mead

Ryan M. Mead is a partner at Hinman, Howard & Kattell and a member of the Business and Corporate Law, Trusts, Estates and Wealth Planning, Taxation, and Not for Profit Corporation and Foundation Practice Groups. Ryan concentrates his practice in business and corporate law, representing clients in all aspects of their business including contract negotiations, management issues, federal and state tax compliance, and day to day business operations.

In addition to his corporate practice, Ryan counsels clients on all aspects of estate planning, taking into consideration current income, estate and gift tax laws. Ryan has experience in drafting wills, powers of attorney, health care proxies, trusts and family limited partnerships. Ryan has experience with business succession planning, including mergers and acquisitions, asset purchase agreements, stock purchases or redemptions, buy-sell equity agreements and entity dissolutions.

Ryan consults with clients on choosing the right type of entity to utilize, including for profit corporations, limited liability companies, limited partnerships or not-for-profit corporations. Ryan has experience with technical legal matters including state blue sky law compliance, federal Exon-Florio/CIFUS disclosures, and Delaware Series LLCs. Ryan has represented clients in proceedings at the United States Tax Court and the New York State Division of Tax Appeals.

Ryan is a regular lecturer and presenter on the following topics: corporate/business law, strategy and compliance; personal estate, trust and tax planning; and not for profit charities law and compliance.

Ryan received his J.D. / M.B.A. dual degree from the University at Buffalo Law School and School of Management in 2007. Ryan is admitted to practice before all New York State Courts, all New Jersey State Courts, all Pennsylvania State Courts, the United States Tax Court, the Federal District Court for the Northern District of New York and the Federal District Court for the District of New Jersey.

A native of Endicott NY, Ryan is very active in the Southern Tier community. He serves as president on the board of directors for the Baden Powell Council, Boy Scouts of America, and as a director for the Broome County Bar Association. He is a volunteer co-chair of the Dick’s Sporting Goods Open concessions committee (formerly the B.C. Open).

In his free time, Ryan enjoys fly fishing, golf, bowling and skiing.
