Peter joined Coughlin & Gerhart, LLP in 2026, bringing with him more than four decades of experience representing individuals and families across the Southern Tier and Central New York who have been injured through no fault of their own. His practice focuses on personal injury and workers’ compensation matters, including motor vehicle and truck accidents, construction site and workplace injuries, and claims involving toxic exposure and repetitive stress injuries.
Peter began his legal career after earning his Juris Doctor from Columbia Law School, following undergraduate studies in journalism at Lehigh University, where he graduated cum laude. He started his practice in California with a nationally recognized personal injury and class action firm before returning to Ithaca to continue representing injured clients in New York’s state and federal courts. Over the course of his career, Peter has tried more than 50 jury trials and handled a wide range of complex injury matters. His work is grounded in thorough preparation, clear communication, and practical strategy-an approach that helps clients understand their options and move forward with confidence during challenging times. Clients work directly with Peter throughout their cases. He is known for his personal, hands-on approach and for taking the time to understand each client’s circumstances, including the impact of an injury on their family and livelihood, in order to pursue the most effective path toward resolution.
Peter has long been active in professional organizations supporting trial advocacy and the rights of injured workers. He has held leadership roles with the Southern Tier Trial Lawyers Association and the Tioga County Bar Association and served for many years on the board of the New York State Trial Lawyers Association. He remains engaged in issues affecting access to the courts and protections for injured individuals.
Outside the practice of law, Peter has been deeply involved in the Ithaca community, serving with a variety of educational, civic, and cultural nonprofit organizations. He has long served on the board of the Elizabeth Ann Clune Montessori School of Ithaca, an experience he values as part of his ongoing commitment to the Ithaca community.
