Sheila J. Kadagathur

Ms. Kadagathur’s practice focuses on all aspects of family law, including spousal support, property allocation, custody, child support, and issues involving same-sex couples. She works with clients to develop specially tailored strategies when they are confronting or initiating a separation or divorce. She has resolved matters using a variety of methods including negotiation, mediation, litigation, and a combination thereof.
Ms. Kadagathur’s family law practice includes experience in evolving areas of family law. In particular, she has been instrumental in helping the firm’s clients with children from same sex relationships resolve complicated parental and custodial rights. Ms. Kadagathur also enjoys drawing from her background in corporate financial investigations to investigate complex financial situations to bring about the best results for her clients.
Ms. Kadagathur was named a Rising Star in the District of Columbia and Maryland by Super Lawyers Magazine, and she was recognized as one of Washington D.C.’s Outstanding Young Lawyers in the Washington Post Magazine in 2013 and 2014.
Before beginning her family law practice, Ms. Kadagathur worked for five years as a litigator at Baker Botts, L.L.P. in its Washington, D.C. office. Ms. Kadagathur began practicing family law in order to apply her experience in high-stakes financial corporate matters to help individuals during extremely challenging times in their personal lives.
Ms. Kadagathur received her J.D. from the University of Chicago Law School and her B.A. magna cum laude from the University of Pennsylvania. Prior to law school, Ms. Kadagathur worked as a “Kids Expert” at the Nickelodeon network.
Ms. Kadagathur is the Co-Chair of the D.C. Bar's Family Law Section and is an active participant in the Montgomery County Bar Association Family Law Section. She volunteers at the D.C. Court Self-Help Center and is trained in collaborative divorce resolution.
Ms. Kadagathur is admitted to practice in the District of Columbia, Illinois, and Maryland.
