Kristen Barrett has been representing clients in legal matters throughout the State of Maryland and the District of Columbia since 1999. Mrs. Barrett devotes the majority of her time to family law, including divorce, custody, support, property allocation, guardianships, and general litigation cases. She has been appointed on a variety of occasions by the Circuit Courts for both Harford and Montgomery Counties to: represent persons in guardianship matters; provide legal assistance to minor children in complex custody litigation; and sell real property as a trustee. She is also trained as a civil mediator and in collaborative law. She is skilled at all methods of dispute resolution including negotiation, mediation, collaborative law, and litigation in order to obtain the best results in all matters.

Mrs. Barrett and Kelly are a great team. My divorce and custody case was very complicated, and ex and his lawyer were making that as long as they could but at the end The Judge accept our offer over them. I feel so glad and thankful for her knowledge and support.

My divorce and custody case was very difficult, long and drawn out. Having an attorney that I could rely on and trust throughout the process was a life saver. Kristen was always very responsive and on top of things. I also appreciated her directness and how she would explain each matter that came up. Kristen also took the whole picture into consideration, not just what worked on paper. She helped me work through difficult decisions to get to an outcome that was best for me and my children both legally and practically in day to day life. I would highly recomend her to any one in need of representation for a divorce or custody issue.

My husband needed to adopt my two adult children (their biological father died when they were very young) for various reasons. Although adult adoptions are pretty straight forward, especially when one of the biological parents is deceased, we had circumstances that required an expeditious filing and frequent follow-up. We could not be happier with the way Kristen handled our case, especially since it was completed in its entirety during Covid. We highly recommend Kristen Barrett.

I was in a very stressful custody situation during a state of emergency. I felt I had no where to turn until I talked to Kristen. She talked to me about what was going on and was very honest about how she could help. Once she got started she answered any questions I had right away and never kept me in the dark and got the job done quickly. A wonderful attorney!!!!!

Kristen put me at ease at the start of our relationship and consistently built trust along the way. I always felt like I could ask any question and receive a considerate, well reasoned answer. My question might range from an obvious legal one to something more personal along the lines of "What would you do?" Regardless of the issue I felt like not only did I have an advocate but also a confidante. I would like to add that the retainer I was asked to provide was very reasonable and the billing was spot on. Further, Kristen was always accessible and was very prompt in returning my communications whether by phone or email. I recommend Kristen highly for not just legal representation but for ensuring the process isn't intimidating but instead is reassuring.
