Can I file bankruptcy chapter 7 if I owe $13000 and can't get my license?

Answered by attorney Rex K. Daines
Bankruptcy lawyer at OlsenDaines
If the reason you can not get your license is because of traffic tickets, then a chapter 7 will not do you any good. A chapter 7 does not eliminate traffic tickets. A chapter 13 eliminates civil (not criminal) traffic tickets. If the reason you can not get your license is because an insurance company sued you, then you can file a chapter 7, but you also need to go into state court an have the judgment voided after the chapter 7 is over. There are exceptions if alcohol was involved that you need to discuss with an attorney.

Could I apply for food stamps with a bankruptcy?

Answered by attorney Marjorie A. Guymon
Bankruptcy lawyer at Goldsmith & Guymon, P.C.
Whether you are eligible for food stamps or not has nothing to do with your bk filing. I suggest you pull the application and find out what the requirements are. I suspect you don't qualify because you are in a 13 which means you have disposable income.

What is the co-signee's responsibility after bankruptcy has been filed?

Answered by attorney Ronald Karl Nims (Unclaimed Profile)
Bankruptcy lawyer at Ronald K. Nims
Since you cosigned the loan, you're liable on the loan. Since your grandmother filed bankruptcy, she's no longer liable, so it's just you. You're only defense is that you're a member of the armed forces and immune from collection actions until your discharge.
