Will workers compensation count as income? How?

Answered by attorney Ronald Karl Nims (Unclaimed Profile)
Bankruptcy lawyer at Ronald K. Nims
Yes and no. The part of workers compensation that is paid to replace wages is income. The part of workers compensation that is paid for personal injury isn't income. At the end of the year you'll get a Form 1099 which will break down the taxable and nontaxable amounts.

What can I do on credit card collections?

Answered by attorney Daniel A. Edelman
Bankruptcy lawyer at Edelman, Combs, Latturner & Goodwin, LLC
1. Go to court. Follow the instructions on the summons carefully. Do not default. 2. Are you being sued by the original creditor or a debt buyer. If it is the original creditor, a settlement may be desirable. If it is a debt buyer, which your reference to the transfer from company to company suggests, it is unlikely to be able to prove anything, including ownership of any debt of yours. In either case, you should consult a lawyer before doing anything like offering money.

If I sold a car 15 months before considering bankruptcy, will there be any problem?

default-avatar
Answered by attorney Dorothy G. Bunce (Unclaimed Profile)
Bankruptcy lawyer at A Fresh Start
You may have to disclose this transaction, but the only problem would be if you transferred the vehicle for less than fair market value. Since this doesn't sound like the case, I would opine that you will be fine.
