A couple goes through chapter 13 bankruptcy, one of the spouses receives disability with a lump sum, can we keep the money?

Was the lump sum listed in the original filing (did you know of it as a possibility at the time of filing) You should at minimum notify your attorney and he/she will likely advise notifying the trustee. Never want to play games with the federal government (unless you want the FBI to show up at your door).

The portion of the tax refunds has to do with the date that you filed your bankruptcy. If you filed half way through 2012 then you pay half of your 2012 tax refund to the trustee. I hope this helps.
