What can I do if a co-borrower on an equity line filed chapter 13 bankruptcy?

When you sell the home, of course you will be paying off the line of credit. The bankruptcy of the co-borrower will not affect the loan.

Is it a good idea to file bankruptcy after a house fire?

Given the fact that there is a claim and anticipated proceeds those would most probably be considered as part of the bankrupt estate. You should certainly see counsel before you take any action. Neither the law nor the creditors are is foolish as you might like.

Can the bank take money from my savings if I am in foreclosure?

Charles J Schneider

If it is a consumer bank account that is subject to regulation Z (which most banks are) no. If the mortgage is with a credit union then they may. However in the future if they take a judgment against you they can garnish the account.
