I was being hounded by a collection agency for not paying for a real estate program that I was unable to pay for. After my explanation of what had happened and reviewing the paperwork I had brought with me, Mr Peckham reassured me that I would be okay as long as I didn't need to make any large purchases (house or car) within the next 6-7 years. Since I had no need of large purchases in the next several years, my fears of what the collection agency could do were resolved.
After over two months in hospital (my crappy health-care insurance had run out--long story), I found myself a medical pauper. Thank you, American health care & insurance industries! Hospitals were dunning me for far more, by any objective measure, than my life's worth. A friend recommended Peckham as a first choice, and thank goodness. He explained Texas bankruptcy laws & assured us that the hospitals could not get either our house or our retirement. So far, we're not living under a bridge.
