Will Ortiz represents clients in medical malpractice, psychiatric malpractice, and wrongful death cases. Over the last few years, Will has focused his practice on representing victims of mental health malpractice and drug rehabilitation facility negligence. Will relentlessly advocates for injured individuals and their families to maximize the compensation they receive, and has secured over $140 million dollars for his clients since 2021 in settlements and verdicts. Since 2023, he has been recognized by SuperLawyers in the Georgia Rising Stars list for Medical Malpractice lawyers. He is also a certified mediator.
Will is fluent in Spanish and routinely represents Latino and Hispanic personal injury victims. Will is of Cuban and Mexican descent and is actively involved in the Georgia Latino community. He currently serves as the President of the Georgia Hispanic Bar Association and is a mentor through the Georgia Latino Legal Foundation.
A native of Gwinnett County, Will earned both his undergraduate and Juris Doctor from the University of Georgia, making him a proud “Double Dawg.” Throughout high school and college, Will was actively involved in mock trial, winning the “All-American Award,” given to the country's top six college mock trial students. After college, Will moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights litigation department and to operate communications for a U.S. Senator.
During law school, Will remained active in moot court and mock trial. He won Best Opening Statement, Best Closing Argument in the National Trial Competition, and Best Oralist in the American Bar Association Moot Court Competition, and several other advocacy awards. The law school nominated Will to the National Order of Barristers—an honor given to the top ten trial advocacy students at the University of Georgia—and named him the inaugural recipient of the Kellie Casey Scholarship for Outstanding Oral Advocacy. Will also volunteered in the law school’s immigration law clinic, where he successfully obtained political asylum for several foreign victims of domestic violence.
After law school, Will served as a law clerk for the Honorable Charles J. Bethel of the Supreme Court of Georgia, which gave him invaluable perspective into Georgia’s highest court and in-depth experience with complicated Georgia civil procedure questions. After his clerkship, Will worked as a trial attorney at a national civil defense firm defending large corporations and insurance companies in personal injury and wrongful death cases. Now, Will uses his knowledge of defense tactics to help injured individuals and their families get justice in their civil cases.
In his spare time, Will is actively involved in the legal community. Will coaches high school and college mock trial. He is actively involved in the Georgia Trial Lawyers Association, an organization that fights to maintain the right to a jury trial for Georgia’s citizens and is a member of this year’s GTLA LEAD Class. Will is also a Barrister in the Clarke-Carley Inn of Court and serves on the executive boards for the University of Georgia School of Law’s Young Alumni Council and Hispanic Alumni Board. Will has also published several articles on various legal topics.
Will loves being a trial lawyer, and lives in Decatur with his wife Amelia, their son, Danny, and their labradoodle, Rosie.
