Should I hire an attorney for a possesion of marijuana charge in North Carolina?

More details to this question:
I am being charged with a possesion of less than a half oz. of marijuana in Orange County, North Carolina. I am a first time offender and plan on enrolling in a substance abuse program at my university before the court day. Do i need to hire an attorney? it is a misdemeanor charge.

Maybe, I would at least speak to an attorney about it and see what he/she says. I think it is always better to hire an attorney if possible. The attorney will know what options are available to you and can guide you in the best direction.
