John Working concentrates his practice on criminal and traffic defense, juvenile advocacy, family law, and estate planning. His dedication to defending others was ignited by a chance encounter with Justice Clarence Thomas at a graduation ceremony, where Justice Thomas emphasized the importance of humility, hard work, and perseverance. Inspired by the Justice’s words, John has since committed himself to protecting the rights of those in need.
After gaining trial experience in both state and federal courts, John opened The Railside Law Group in Ashland. There, he vigorously represents clients facing serious legal challenges, whether in criminal trials or domestic disputes. John is known for his calm demeanor in court and his ability to communicate effectively with his clients.
John’s connection to Ashland began during his time at Randolph-Macon College, where he earned a Bachelor’s degree in English and was a standout on the football team. Before practicing law, he taught English and coached football locally, earning multiple championships.
Outside of work, John is active in the community, serving on the boards of the Hanover Bar Association and the Ashland Theater. He enjoys time with his family and their protective Doberman Pinscher.
