Bray & Klockau, P.L.C. is a four-lawyer firm dedicated to the practice of domestic relations, family law, and adoption. We are located in a historic building two blocks east of the Johnson County Courthouse in Iowa City, Iowa.
Our firm specializes in all family law matters. We use litigation, settlement strategies, and mediation to assist clients in finding solutions to problems. We take time to educate our clients so that they can make informed choices as their case progresses.

I hired Mr. Shellady to take over my CINA case from the court-appointed attorney. He has thoroughly researched my case and assertively represented me in court. The second-to-last hearing didn't bode well with the court-appointed attorney. Without divulging case specifics, Mr. Shellady turned the tide in my favor recently. He was professional, highly prepared, and highly organized at our review hearing. He seemed to know the law better than everyone in the courtroom. He strongly advocated for my rights as a father, and was exemplary in his representation. I highly recommend Mr. Shellady or any other attorney at Bray & Klockau for their strong research and advocacy skills.

Lory "represented" me in my divorce 10 years ago. I was dealing with a severe alcoholic, narrisistic husband and his crooked lawyer. Instead of Lory representing me, she did whatever it took to avoid conflict with them. Lory talked me out of pursuing primary care so he wouldn't have to pay child support. Even though we had a child with significant disabilities that made it necessary to establish primary care, Lory told me it didn't matter. She was wrong....it does matter. Three years later with a different lawyer, I took my ex back to court and won primary care easily. My new lawyer told me I should have received primary care in the first place. Lory and my ex's lawyer also signed an order forcing me to have my ex be a beneficiary of 25% of my retirement in exchange for his small amount. I found that out after we signed the divorce papers. I would have never agreed to that! I would NOT recommend Lory. She did a better job helping my ex than me.
