Community: Message Board and Chat Registration

Registration

Your Profile

Your profile is completely under your control: you can update all or a specific piece of your profile at any time. Profiles include the following required information:

Select EMAIL ADDRESS

To protect your identity, our programming automatically hides your email address when you post messages to the message boards. Should you wish others to know how to contact you directly, "uncheck" the related box. This email address is also the address we'll use for private correspondence, such as resetting a forgotten password.

Select DISPLAY NAME

This name is unique and visible to the general public when you post a message or participate in a chat. If you change your display name, the change will be reflected in all your previous postings as well as any new messages. If a name you wish to select is already in use, consider adding numbers to create a unique name.

Select USER NAME

You'll use this name with your password selection to login to the Web site. This name is not "case-sensitive" (recognized only when you use exact capitals or punctuation) or displayed anywhere on the Web site.

Select PASSWORD

Along with your user name, your password is required to complete login. Passwords are case- sensitive.

Select ZIP CODE

Providing your zip code allows us to know which geographic areas have a large (or smaller) Internet usage. This information helps us to prioritize specific areas where we want to provide more helpful legal resources.

Select CITY (Optional)

If you'd like to tell us where you're located, feel free to do so.

Select PROFILE (Optional)

A completed profile is accessible through your display name, listed with every message submitted to the site. Profiles are "not" available until a message board posting has been submitted. Your profile should always contain your state location as well as:

  • Who you are. If you prefer, you need not mention your name; just give us a general description of your situation (for example: "injured worker struggling with workers' comp system for last three years"). Please do not include your full name and contact information unless you wish it to be available to the general public.
  • If you're a lawyer or other professional, or have something else to offer, we've provided the profile for your contact information, including email, Web site address and so forth. General advertising messages are not allowed as postings to our message boards.
  • How you got involved on the Internet
  • Anything else you may want to tell a new acquaintance

Activate Your Account

After successfully completing registration, an activation email will be sent to the email address registered to your account. The email will contain a link to a web page where you will be asked to insert your User Name, password and the unique activation code included in the email. Upon submission of this information, you will be logged into the site and may proceed to submit a message or join a chat.

Edit Your Profile

  • Complete login
  • Select "Edit your Profile" to display your current profile
  • Make the changes you desire
  • Click the "Save" button located at the bottom
