.- Do not sign an insurance release or any other document without understanding what it says. It may take away your legal rights.
.- Do not give statements without consulting your attorney. Even the most innocent statement can be misunderstood.
.- The driver of any vehicle involved in an accident resulting in injury, death, or over $1,000.00 in property damage must file an accident report with the State of Oregon within 72 hours of the accident. Forms are available through the Department of Motor Vehicles or from your attorney.
.- Promptly notify your auto insurance carrier. Under Oregon law, insurance companies must pay your medical bills and partial wage loss up to certain limits regardless of who was at fault. Check with your insurance company or attorney for details. (Rules for motorcycles may be different. Consult your attorney).
.- Take pictures of your injuries, as well as any damage to your car. Damage and injuries may change or fade with time.
.- Do not delay in consulting an attorney. Facts can become hazy and memories dim with the passage of time.
.- Maintain a file of all medical bills and treatment records you receive.
.- If the accident takes place while working as an employee or as a covered employer, a Worker's Compensation report should be completed immediately to receive benefits. |
