  Founded in Ironwood in 1886, by Charles M. Humphrey, Sr., the firm has continuously provided quality legal services to our clients in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan and Northern Wisconsin since that time. Mr. Humphrey Sr. was a past president of the State Bar of Michigan. Mr. Humphrey Sr. and his son Charles M. Humphrey, Jr. formed the Humphrey and Humphrey partnership in 1931. In 1976, Charles M. Humphrey Jr. and John P. Murphy formed the Humphrey & Murphy law partnership which continued until Mr. Humphrey's retirement in 1985. The firm is now known as the John P. Murphy Law Office. <p>The firm continues to practice as defense trial counsel in tort litigation. We represent area banks and other financial institutions as well as public entities, including Geogebic Community College and the town of Knight, Wisconsin. With computer, scientific and automotive engineering experience we combine state-of-the-art technology with an extensive technical, medical and law library to ensure our clients fast, efficient research and case development. Professional development is encouraged through attending continuing legal education seminars and regularly teaching law classes at the community college level and legal education seminars.
