Two Major Air Carrier Cases

The firm recently settled two cases brought on behalf of United States Naval Officers arising from the crash of a major international air carrier in Pohang, South Korea. In the first claim litigated, we represented our clients in the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York and reached a confidential settlement prior to trial.

A second claim, which we handled on behalf of another Naval Officer injured in the same crash was brought to us after the expiration of the statute of limitations, that is the period of time in which you have to sue or are forever barred.  Our client had spoken to several attorneys, all of whom told him they couldn't do anything for him. Utilizing the relief found in the Sailors and Soldiers' Act, a civil war era body of law, we were able to establish the viability of his claim and reach a successful settlement with the air carrier.

Alaskan Tour Helicopter Crash

We sucessfully represented three families who lost their loved ones while on their Alsaskan cruise.  Our clients were killed when their helicopter crashed on the Hebert Glacier in Juneau, Alaska.  In addition to turning to the helicopter operator, our experts determined that the helicopter manufacturer itself and the producer of a critical hydraullic sub-component were at-fault.

Life Insurance Carrier Settles

Our client's wife purchased a policy of term life insurance from a large life insurance company.  When she became ill with a brain tumor, the premium payments were not made as she was the household's bill payer.  After her husband realized the premiums were not being paid he reinstated the policy with the assistance of the company's agent assigned the account.  The reinstatement application contained language to the effect that the wife was in the same health condition she was in at the time the original life insurance application was signed.  The agent knew the wife was sick but still processed her application.  Our client's wife died from the brain tumor and the life insurance company refused to pay on the policy.  Our suit brought to light the conduct of the insurance agent and as a result the life insurance carrier and agent entered into a very favorable settlement.
