Owen P. McGowan has been in practice since 1987. He was a partner at a large Boston litigation firm which he left in order to establish a South Shore litigation firm dedicated to providing large city expertise in a small town environment. Mr. McGowan has two associates, one of counsel and two paralegals.

In addition to personal injury litigation, the firm has developed particular expertise in the area of insurance coverage litigation and regularly represents businesses and individuals seeking to enforce their rights under policies of insurance. Lawyers from the firm appear in court regularly and have brought cases in the United States First Circuit Court of Appeals, the Federal District Court of Massachusetts, the Supreme Judicial Court of Massachusetts, and the Massachusetts Appeals Court and all levels of the Massachusetts Trial Courts.

Presently, the firm represents plaintiffs and defendants in numerous multimillion dollar personal injury lawsuits. Mr. McGowan obtained the largest medical malpractice settlement in Massachusetts in calendar year 2000, a $2.5 million dollar recovery in a complex, highly contested case against a major Massachusetts hospital. Although the case had been turned down by two law firms prior to Mr. McGowan's acceptance of it, a very successful result was obtained as a result of hard work, diligence and the use of skilled expert witnesses who were able to reveal poor medical care and the possible alteration of medical records.

While a partner at his prior law firm in Boston, Mitchell, McGowan & DeSimone, Mr. McGowan was instrumental in obtaining a $9 million dollar settlement on behalf of a brain injured plaintiff who sustained injuries in a tragic trucking accident. Again, numerous experts were employed in order to obtain this successful outcome.

Mr. McGowan is a regular instructor with Massachusetts Continuing Legal Education, authoring numerous books and chapters with respect to personal injury litigation and the obligations of insurers with respect to providing coverage to individuals and businesses.
