Mr. Martin is an attorney with extensive experience advocating for the rights of children and individuals with disabilities. His practice centers on special education law, suspension and expulsion cases, and juvenile delinquency hearings. He has litigated such cases in federal and state courts and mediated numerous disputes with educational agencies. Moreover, Mr. Martin has lectured on these issues to a number of local, state and national advocacy groups and organizations.
In addition to his focus on these practice areas, Mr. Martin has extensive experience as a criminal defense lawyer and continues to maintain a practice in the areas of state and federal criminal defense and civil rights violations.
Before entering private practice, Mr. Martin was the litigation director of the Public Justice Center, a non-profit organization in Baltimore, Maryland, where he managed and litigated class action and other impact cases involving children's rights and civil rights. Prior to that, The Legal Aid Society of New York employed him as a criminal defense attorney where he represented indigent defendants in New York City. He was the 1990 recipient of the Public Service Award from the University of Maryland School of Law for his significant public interest contributions during his law school career.
