Tom Gallagher's criminal defense practice includes criminal matters of every type, including accusations of DWI, domestic-related criminal charges, theft, property crimes, drug "crimes," gun charges, possession crimes, political crimes, bribery, white collar crimes, assault, robbery, sex crimes, rape, homicide. He has successfully defended clients in misdemeanor cases, DWI cases, felony cases, and the most serious felony cases. Gallagher has successfully handled numerous jury trials, trials to a judge, evidentiary hearings, probation hearings, and appeals.
He has also been retained by clients being investigated or possibly investigated by police, providing "pre-charge counsel" designed to reduce the likliehood of ever being charged with a crime.
Gallagher has successfuly represented many non-citizens, inlcuding Permanent Resident "Green Card" holders, at risk of Removal (Deportation) or other negative immigration law outcome. Since a criminal prosecution, guilty plea, or conviction can be the trigger for negative immigration consequences, such as Deportation or Denial of Naturalization, etc., by managing or winning the criminal case, a much more difficult immigration law problem may be avoided.
Though Gallagher does not handle civil lawsuits generally, he does represent his criminal defense clients in related "civil" law matters, such as car forfeitures, CHIPS cases, drivers license revocations, etc.
Tom Gallagher's office is conveniently located in downtown Minneapolis, across the street from the Minneapolis jail, across the street from the United States Courthouse, and one-block from the Hennepin County Courthouse.
Gallagher represents clients in the state and federal courts primarily in the Minneapolis -- St Paul metropolitan area and surrounding counties, but has represented clients in every corner of the State of Minnesota.
Gallagher is highly regarded in the local legal community. For example, he is a frequent author of law related articles; and a frequent lecturer to lawyers and judges on criminal law topics. He has been rated the highest possible rating by his peers -- an "AV rating" though Martindale-Hubbell's peer rating system.
