Barry Oliver Chase, P.A.
Practice Areas
Entertainment, Sports & Leisure Law:

Representation of recording artists and composers and, barring conflicts of interest, record production and distribution companies, is at the heart of the firm's work. Musical genres have included Latin pop, English-language pop, R & B, hip-hop, rap, Caribbean music and Christian music in both Spanish and English. The firm has also represented on-air and on-screen talent, artists, photographers and models, as well as talent agencies and an occasional professional sports figure. Pro Bono Publico activities include representation of independent film producers and lecturing at local colleges and law schools.

Communications & Media Law:

The firm regularly counsels on-screen and on-the-air talent regarding their agreements with producers, networks and businesses seeking celebrity endorsements. The firm also negotiates the terms of these agreements on behalf of clients. In addition, barring a conflict situation, the firm is equipped to develop and administer agreements for producers and networks and is able to handle FCC-related matters as a result of our prior experience and contacts in Washington, DC. All elements of national and international program, film and literary rights are within the firm's areas of focus.

Intellectual Property Law:

In connection with its representation of performers, producers and talent in the entertainment industry, the firm has frequently been called upon to counsel and protect our clients with regard to a broad range of intellectual property matters. These have included music copyright, book copyright, chain-of-title in literary property such as screenplays and television scripts, trademarks in stage-names, names of musical groups and, increasingly, protection of the rights of privacy and personality for celebrity clients on the Internet and in advertising.

Science & Technology Law:

As the Internet has become more and more of an opportun ity for te development of our clients' careers, it has also become an arena requiring zealous vigilance and protection of our clients' rights of privacy and personality. Celebrity names have triggered abuses on the Net which have created a new area of practice for the firm involving domain-name ownership, the establishment of unauthorized "fan clubs," and other encroachments on what has previously been a much easier area for our clients to track and control.
