Tax Controversies, Planning, & Estates
Anchored by an alumnus of the U.S. Department of Justice, Tax Division, JLJ attorneys handle a wide variety of complex individual and corporate tax controversies between taxpayers and the Internal Revenue Service or the various state and local taxing authorities. Our practice in this area includes defending taxpayers in IRS audits and against additional assessments, as well as defense in criminal cases involving failure to file or report. Additionally, we have represented taxpayers in class action cases against unconstitutionally levied state and local taxes, including appearances before the United States Supreme Court in cases related to cable television and truck use taxes.
The tax practice area also focuses on assisting individual and corporate clients with assistance in the structuring of transactions, wealth transfers between generations, retirement planning and other matters to receive the most favorable tax treatment. In conjunction with this practice, JLJ provides estate planning to many individual clients.
