This book was written with the assumption that the reader is already somewhat familiar with "Special Education", as provided for by the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). Although the IDEA is an important and comprehensive remedial law enacted for the benefit of public school children with disabililties affecting the ability to learn, which law mandates an appropriate education through an individualized education program (IEP), there are some glaring loopholes in coverage and deficiencies in remedies that parents and advocates should be aware of.
