Our firm traces its origins to the March 1990 merger of the Fairfax Virginia firm of Godard & West and the Maryland practice of S. Allan Adelman. In 2001, to reflect its continued growth, the firm changed its name to Adelman, Sheff and Smith. Our practice areas include: Hospital/Health Care Law, Medical Malpractice Defense, Public Finance Law, Hospital Risk Management, Negligence and Insurance Law.
The Hospital Health Care section deals with hospital operation issues, hospital/physician joint ventures, medical staff credentialing and medical staff bylaws, contracts, employment and personnel matters, health care corporate tax, regulatory, business, transactional issues and risk management.
The Litigation section concentrates on medical malpractice defense, general liability defense, medical staff and credentialing litigation, representation of physicians before the Maryland Board of Physician Quality Assurance, defense of claims arising out of prison health services and employment related litigation such as wrongful discharge and discrimination claims.
The Public Finance section deals with the issuance of tax exempt bonds and related issues, representing borrowers and underwriters primarily in the areas of healthcare and education.
Our Collection section represents hospitals and physician practice groups in the recovery of overdue accounts through litigation.
