Brazos County is also the home of Texas A&M University, a nationally recognized educational and research university, with an enrollment of over 44,000 students. Blinn College of Brenham, Texas, also operates a campus in Bryan, Texas, where it has an enrollment of approximately 12,000 students.
The Bryan/College Station area is recognized as a regional retail and health care center. Because of its outstanding public school districts and the proximity of Texas A&M University and Blinn College, it is poised to become a leader in the technology area. Although the economy of the Brazos Valley was historically based in agriculture, the growing importance and influence of Texas A&M University and Blinn College give the area some decided advantages in development of a technology focused economy.
The recent addition of the George Bush Presidential Library on the Texas A&M University campus has drawn more state and national attention to the area, and it has become a regional tourist attraction.
