The oldest child of Robert and Donna, William A. Maschmeyer, grew up in a devoted environment where church and community involvement were valued. His father worked a Colonial Baking Company bread route and later drove a school bus, while his mother was a homemaker.
After completing high school, William -- who is better known as Bill -- attended Purdue University in West Lafayette to complete his bachelor's degree in Journalism. The craft of writing served as a wonderful asset in later crafting legal arguments during his quest for a judicial degree. While attending his first year of law school, Bill met his future wife Nancy at Indiana Central in the spring semester. The couple married soon after. And in 1985, Bill received his J.D. for the Indiana University School of Law in Indianapolis.
For the first year out of law school, Bill worked as the Deputy Attorney General under Lindley Pearson, therefore gaining priceless experience for both his law career and future political aspirations. He also opened a solo practice and rented an office from the Haggerty partners. After noticing Bill's work ethic, Jay B. Haggerty recruited Bill to work for the law firm. The firm became Haggerty Haggerty and Maschmeyer in 1987.
Bill continues to have a positive impact on his community. He is life-long member of the Friedens United Church of Christ and even served on the board for several years. Bill has been a Republican Precinct Committee Man and Eagle Scout. He currently serves as the Vice-President on the Franklin Community School Corporation School Board, after being elected last year, and also sits on the Central-9 Career Center Board.
To relax, Bill spends time in his garden and is also an avid fisherman. He has also coached youth basketball, soccer and softball. In fact, both Bill and his wife Nancy enjoy playing softball. However, the couple's main duty in life is total devotion to their twelve-year-old son. The family puts strong value on scholastic and athletic achievement. Anyone can see this when visiting the firm and Bill's office. Many photos of Bill's son adorn his office.
