Joseph (Joe) McHugh, founding attorney of LA Law Center, PC is an Asset Protection Attorney with over 30 years of experience and specializes in Legal Asset Protection strategies to protect business owners and their families. Joe and his Legal Team offer many legal strategies in Asset Protection Planning depending on his client’s situation with a variety of California Trusts… he has many different trusts in his arsenal to help his clients!
He is knowledgeable and has experience in many legal avenues of protecting his client’s assets by offering comprehensive Trust Packages, LLCs, Asset Protection Trusts, Land Trusts (for privacy), Family Estate Planning, Elder Law (Medi-CAL Planning), Special Needs Planning and Probate Administration as his firm’s legal services.
Joe grew up in La Mirada, California, and has an undergraduate degree from California State University at Fullerton in Business Administration, with an emphasis on Finance and Accounting. He spent many years working in the Disney organization, starting at Disneyland as a Popcorn Vendor, and then moving to the Project Finance Division. He was transferred to Walt Disney Imagineering in Glendale, California, and ended up with his final job as Manager of Contract Administration working on EPCOT Center and Tokyo Disneyland Projects. Joe went to Whittier School of Law at night for 3+ years while working full-time for Walt Disney Imagineering, passing the California State Bar Exam for the first time!
Joe left Disney and started his solo law practice in Glendale, California, helping clients with opening new businesses, and contracts, and planning themed entertainment projects. He acted as in-house counsel raising equity funding, creating joint ventures and subsidiary companies, and various international business transactions. In his early days as an attorney, he developed an interest in family estate planning and asset protection and refocused his practice in these areas of law and created LA LAW Center, PC.
Joe is an active member of the State Bar of California, as well as the Bar’s Business, Estate Planning, Trust and Probate Law Sections; the National Association of Elder Law Attorneys; California Advocates for Nursing Home Reform; Academy of Special Needs Planners and several bar associations such as the Los Angeles County Bar, the Burbank Bar, the Beverly Hills Bar, and the Irish-American Bar (with a name like McHugh, he just has to be a member).
He is a proud parent of his two adult children who are now out of college and working in Southern California. He resides in a rural area in Los Angeles with his wife, Kathy where they enjoy somewhat of a country lifestyle with several dogs, a cat, and a wild peacock named Big Bird and his growing family. Joe with his Palomino Quarter Horse, Kali, retired as a Civilian Volunteer with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Mounted Posse (after 20 years of service). Joe truly loves the family’s menagerie of animals, family activities, and going exploring with his friends off-roading and camping in his Jeep and little vintage camper!
