The quality of her work is also reflected in her devotion to public service. The most significant honor she has received is being named Lawyer of the Year by Broward Lawyers Care -- twice -- in 1998 and 2003. This resulted from continuous service to BLC, in particular for her work helping people with HIV and AIDS. She also believes service to her local community -- through city council, volunteer boards and civic groups -- has provided her a broad perspective on a variety of issues, and also taught her meaningful ways of resolving competing needs of diverse groups through consensus-building.
