Randy graduated from the University of Michigan (Phi Beta Kappa, 1974; B.A., High Honors and High Distinction, 1975) He received his law degree from Harvard Law School in 1978 where he served on the Civil Rights ? Civil Liberties Law Review.  Randy currently serves as an adjunct professor of law at Seattle University teaching Remedies and Products Liability, where he has been honored by being twice elected to serve as commencement speaker.

Randy currently serves as a hearing officer (1999-2004) for the Washington State Bar Association on disciplinary matters.  Randy has been active in the King County Bar Association, Trustee (1996-1999); East King County Bar Association, Trustee (1988-1994), Vice President (1994); President (1995).  Randy currently serves on the Washington State Trial Lawyers Association Board of Governors and as WSTLA?s liaison to the WSBA.  He also serves as Presiding Officer for the National Board of Review for the USA-National Karate-do Federation, the national governing body for the sport of karate, and has served as mediator, arbitrator, and court-appointed special master in dozens of cases.

Randy received the WSTLA?s Public Justice Award for 1998 for his work in Birklid v. Boeing, 127 Wn.2d 853, 904 P.2d 278 (1995) including his argument before the State Supreme court resulting in a 9-0 landmark decision changing 83 years of Washington law regarding employer liability for ?deliberate? injury.  He was honored in 2001 with receipt of both WSTLA?s Professionalism Award and WSBA?s President?s Award.

Randy's writings include book chapters, and publications on discovery, examination of witnesses, and jury selection, and columns and articles in journals such as the Washington State Bar News and King County Bar Bulletin.   In addition, Randy has an active trial practice embracing complex commercial, insurance, and tort litigation, products liability, personal injury, toxic exposures, and professional liability.
