Gary F. DeShazo & Associates
About Our Firm

At the present time, approximately 90% of the firm's docket consists of the prosecution of legal malpractice claims. The firm has cases pending in all of the major metropolitan areas of Texas, as well as several out of state claims.

Although the firm prefers to concentrate on larger more complex claims, the size of the claim is not necessarily dispositive of whether a case is accepted. It is our belief that claimants who have been aggrieved by the conduct of their attorney or insurance company should have recourse in the courts regardless of the size of the claim. All such cases are carefully reviewed, but we only accept approximately 1 of 10 cases presented.

In 1996, the ABA reported that 78% of legal malpractice claims resulted in recovery of less than $10,000.00 with a greater number being closed with no recovery at all. Only 4.1% of claims made resulted in recovery of over $100,000.00. This firm's experience in legal malpractice claims is vastly better than that reflected in the ABA study. Our experience shows that recovery is the norm rather than the exception. We have secured several recoveries in excess of one million dollars in both malpractice and bad faith insurance cases. Prosecution of direct actions against insurance companies constitutes the significant remainder of the firm's practice. Fees are arranged on a case to case basis.

Finally, we believe a firm's success is measured by what is accomplished for the client in the courtroom, rather than the number of committees served on or the number of articles written. (See achievements and reported cases herein).
