WHEN AN ACCIDENT HAPPENS:

1. Listen, do not talk.  

2. DO NOT MAKE STATEMENTS OR APOLOGIES.   

3. Render emergency assistance when needed. Be a good Samaritan.                 

4. Call 911. Cooperate with authorities.         

5. Photograph everything at the scene (Have a disposable camera in the glove box of your car). Make sure to get pictures of skid marks, road signs (speed limit signs).                      

6. Note the date, time of day, weather, road conditions, lighting.       

7. Get witnesses names, addresses and telephone numbers.                   

8. Write down your immediate thoughts, observations and all injuries.                      

9. Keep a daily log of anything regarding your accident.                 

10. Seek medical attention immediately. Describe every symptom (aches & pains) to medical professional no matter how minor. Treat early.                      

11. Exchange insurance information.                  

12. Get name, badge number and telephone number of responding police officer(s).                    

13. Contact your insurance company and report the accident.  

14. Contact an attorney.

15. DO NOT GIVE STATEMENTS OR TALK TO THE OTHER INSURANCE COMPANY. Let your attorney know immediately that you have been contacted.

16. Follow ALL of the medical advice from your doctors.

17. Keep track of your mileage to/from your health care providers. Keep all receipts, including prescriptions. Keep track of lost wages, including family members who lose wages due to taking care of you.                       

18. Have a realistic expectation of what might be involved legally. Personal injury cases usually take a long time to process. You will not be paid immediately.
