Heidi J. Moyer joined Blumer Nally & Siro in 1998 and currently practices in the areas of serious Personal Injury, Employment Discrimination, Family and Medical Leave Act claims and Social Security Disability. Prior to joining the firm, she spent six years at Wyandotte/Leavenworth Legal Services assisting low-income people with legal problems.
Ms. Moyer graduated from the University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Law in 1992. She is licensed to practice in Missouri and Kansas state courts as well as federal courts in the District of Kansas and the Western District of Missouri. She is an active member of the Kansas City Metropolitan Bar Association, the Missouri Bar, the Missouri Association of Trial Attorneys, and the Wyandotte County Bar Association. Ms. Moyer was an officer for the Kansas Bar Association Young Lawyers Section for three years and coordinated the Kansas High School Mock Trial Competition in 2001 and 2002. The Kansas Bar Association named her as its Outstanding Young Lawyer in 2002.
Ms. Moyer has served as lead counsel or second chair in numerous successful jury trials on both sides of the state line in both federal and state court. In 2002 she served as lead counsel in a binding arbitration in a pregnancy discrimination and FMLA case. Her most recent jury verdict was in the Western District of Missouri in a sexual harassment/retaliation claim in April 2003. She is a member of the Kansas City chapter of the National Employment Lawyers Association and is on the adjunct faculty staff at Avila University and is teaching employment law in the Fall 2003 semester.
Heidi Moyer has been representing Social Security disability claimants in Social Security appeals since January 1993. Ms. Moyer assists claimants with the initial filing, represents them at the administrative hearing and will pursue meritorious appeals up to federal court. She is a member of the National Organization of Social Security Claimant's Representatives and was on the faculty at a Continuing Legal Education Seminar entitled "Handling a Social Security Disability Case in Kansas" in August 2003.
Ms. Moyer's community involvement includes serving as a volunteer attorney for the Kansas Elder Law Hotline and as a board member for Budget and Financial Management Association, an organization that provides budgeting and financial management assistance to disabled, homeless and elderly persons. She has also provided adult literacy tutoring and for the last four years has served on the Friends of NewHouse Committee which organizes an annual fundraiser for NewHouse, a domestic violence shelter.
