David was born in Kirkwood, Missouri, in 1962, the middle child in a family of seven, with five sisters and one brother. The family moved often as David was growing up, moving from Missouri, to Georgia, to Connecticut, to New York and finally to Colorado where he graduated from high school. David pursued his undergraduate degree at Carroll College in Helena, Montana. During the summers he worked on his uncle's farm in Sherman, Connecticut. After receiving his Bachelor of Arts degree in 1985, David joined the Peace Corps as a Fisheries Extension Agent in the Republic of Zaire, present day Democratic Republic of Congo. David served two years in the village of Wikong assisting host country nationals interested in raising fish in ponds.

     After the Peace Corps, David pursued his Masters degree in History at the University of Montana. In 1993, he joined the Firm as a paralegal. In 1997, David moved to Tennessee where he worked as a Paralegal for Arnett, Draper & Hagood in Knoxville. In 2000, David returned to Bozeman, Montana, where he worked for Goetz, Gallik, Baldwin & Dolan, P.C. He returned to the Firm in 2001. David has ten years experience as a paralegal.

     David married Cathy McCue, an old college friend, in 2003. He has one son and one step-son. David is active in the Western Montana Returned Peace Corps Volunteer group and the Bozeman Lions Club. His spare time is spent home brewing beer and working with his Quarter Horses.
