Achievements

Recognized for Cross-Examination Skills:

The art of cross-examination is critical to successful criminal defense. Hugh Levine's skill as a cross-examiner has been recognized by a nationally-known trial advocate and author on the subject of cross-examination, John Nicholas Iannuzzi of New York City. Excerpts from Mr. Levine's cross-examination of a federal agent in a federal criminal case are featured in Mr. Iannuzzi's book, Handbook of Cross-Examination, The Mosaic Art (2d ed., Prentice Hall, 1998), pp. 237-244, 370-396.

Published Author on Legal Subjects:

Unlike many lawyers in all specialties, Hugh Levine can write well. He has authored several articles in various publications on criminal law subjects, including "The Horse Is Alive: Attacking the Affects-Interstate-Commerce Element in Federal Prosecutions" (published in The Champion by the National Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers (August, 1992), written a number of book reviews for the San Francisco Chronicle, and written his own book, Flake - The Trial of a Cop (Xlibris, 2006).

Mr. Levine excels in the written motion practice which often proves outcome-determinative in criminal cases.

Best-selling novelist Richard North Patterson has acknowledged Mr. Levine as a member of his "criminal law board of directors" in recognition of Mr. Levine's consultative contributions to several of the author's books.  In addition, Mr. Levine has received acknowledgment for his contribution to the criminology book Victims by J.L. Barkas (Charles Scribner's Sons 1978), p. 209.
